Workshop services available

The terms and descriptions of flute services, re-pads and overhauls can often be confusing and mean different things to different people. There follows a brief description of the work included for each of the basic flute repair procedures.

Emergency repair

This is very much a repair to get you back out there on the stage. Whether a small, niggling problem or a major accident, assuming the problem can be easily identified, our workshop will spend up to two hours work (charged at our hourly rate) to get the instrument back into playing condition. Additional charges for emergency key making and soldering may apply.

General service

This is a term which is regularly misused with many repairers simply cleaning and lubricating an instrument, describing it as a general service The Woodwind Group workshop considers these things as merely the beginning of a service, going through to major shimming of pads, replacement of adjustment regulations and corks.

  • Replace missing corks and felts (max of 2)
  • Limited amount of pad work/shimming
  • Hand clean
  • Oil and adjust

Re-pad

  • Replace missing corks and felts as necessary (no maximum)
  • Replace all pads
  • Hand clean
  • Oil and adjust as per service

Overhaul

A Woodwind Group complete overhaul returns an instrument to as new (if not better) condition.

  • Remove all dents and scratches and as much wear as possible
  • Machine polish
  • Replace all corks and felts
  • Replace all pads
  • Oil and adjust as per service
